Senior Assistant Director (Serious Crime and Regions)

REF: IRC228124

DEPARTMENT: Public Prosecution Service for Northern Ireland (PPS)

SALARY: £89,482 - £102,103

LOCATION: Belfast Chambers, 93 Chicester Street, Belfast, BT1 3JR

The Senior Assistant Director (SAD) post will provide the successful candidate with an interesting, dynamic and challenging career where their senior management experience and knowledge can contribute to the future success of the Service.  Over the next five years, the PPS will have to manage a number of key challenges, most notably influencing and driving forward  performance improvements and supporting the transformation  of the criminal justice system within a reducing budgetary framework.   In this regard the SAD will represent the organisation at a senior level on a number of inter-agency fora.

This is a Management Board level appointment and the SAD will work closely with other Board members to develop, implement and deliver the organisation’s strategic objectives. The successful applicant will thus be required to demonstrate commitment to the visions, aims and values of the PPS and will ensure that they are embedded operationally throughout the organisation.

The post holder will provide leadership across a range of casework areas for the case management of a range of prosecution decisions and they will be expected to take personal responsibility for making decisions in some of the more high profile and sensitive cases. This will require a focus on quality, timeliness and risk management.

This is a demanding role, but also offers significant rewards in terms of the contribution that the post holder can make to maintaining public confidence in the fair and effective administration of justice in Northern Ireland.

Further appointments may be made from this competition should PPS positions become vacant which require the same eligibility criteria and have similar duties and responsibilities.
