Science Leader in Pathogen Genomics - Principal Scientific Officer

SALARY: £49,806 - £54,588

The Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute Northern Ireland (AFBI) seeks to invest in its senior scientific team by recruiting three internationally renowned science leaders in the areas of (i) animal health genomics, (ii) plant health surveillance, and (iii) plant health diagnostics. The successful applicants will contribute significantly to AFBI’s key theme of ‘Protecting animal, plant and human health’.  They will also have access to AFBI’s cutting edge scientific platforms and will work in multi-disciplinary teams delivering excellent science and applied solutions to many of the challenges facing agriculture. 

This new Principal Scientific Officer post, in a principal investigator role, offers an exciting opportunity for a skilled and experienced scientific leader in Pathogen Genomics to join AFBI at a pivotal time to enable AFBI to harness the potential of genomics across diverse data streams and spanning AFBI’s animal health and plant health remits. The post-holder will build new, cross-cutting pathogen genomics and bioinformatics capacity and capability to drive the strategic scientific development of AFBI in forthcoming years. The successful candidate will lead and manage this high-priority area within a well-established and multi-disciplinary scientific group, providing considerable impacts for the agri-food industry and tangible achievements within and beyond academia.
