Project Manager - Crop Scientist - Higher Scientific Officer (54 month fixed term contract)

This is an exciting opportunity to become involved in the evolving science of plant variety testing. InnoVar (‘Next generation variety testing for improved cropping on European farmland’) is a Horizon 2020 project coordinated by the Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI), Northern Ireland, with EC funding of almost €8M shared between 21 partners in 10 countries. The successful candidate will be based at AFBI Crossnacreevy and will assist the coordinator in all aspects of project management, including planning and organisation of workflow between partners, communication with the EC and project partners, management of project resources, project reporting and coordination of and attendance at meetings locally and internationally. This is an opportunity for a motivated, ambitious scientist to gain valuable experience in a multi-disciplinary project management environment, of the rapidly evolving areas of genomics, phenomics and machine learning. InnoVar will draw together expertise and knowledge from across crop science, bioinformatics, soil science, meteorology, and computer science to develop and deliver methods and tools to achieve greater efficiency in the existing plant variety testing processes and in the use of resources on-farm, enabling the EU and its farmers to maximise the potential of their land, in terms of both yield and environmental sustainability.
