Advertising
When a position is advertised it will normally be open for applications over a 2-3 week period. The closing date for each competition will be clearly stated on the advertisement and in the Candidate Information Booklet (CIB). Please ensure you give yourself ample time to complete and submit an application for the post as late applications will not be accepted.

Application Form
The application form is designed to ensure that applicants provide the necessary information to determine how they meet the requirements for the post.
Applicants are encouraged to submit applications through the online facility of this website, however should you require a hard copy application or need an alternative format e.g. larger font; an application pack can be requested by contacting:

Equal Opportunities Monitoring Form
The last section of the application form requires applicants to enter details for Equality Monitoring purposes.
All applicants must complete the Equal Opportunities Monitoring Form prior to submitting their application as failure to complete this section of the form will result in the application being withdrawn from the competition.
Application Format
The space available on the application form is the same for all applicants and should not be altered or reformatted.
Incomplete or emailed application forms or those received after the closing date will not be accepted.
Supplementary material in place of or in addition to the application form will not be accepted.
Eligibility Requirements
In order to be eligible to apply for a recruitment competition for the NICS, there are a number of factors to consider before applying;
Do I meet the nationality requirements?
The vast majority of vacancies in the NICS are open to UK Nationals, Commonwealth Citizens, British Protected Persons and EEA Nationals. There are a small number of posts to which only UK Nationals are eligible to apply.
The Nationality requirements for each competition will be outlined in the Candidate Information Booklet. Further information regarding the Nationality requirements of the NICS.
Do I meet the eligibilty requirements for the post?
The eligibility and shortlisting criteria will be clearly defined in the CIB for the post, you should carefully consider this criteria and make sure to provide adequate details of how you meet each of the requirements in your application form.
When completing the eligibilty and shortlisting sections of your application form you may wish to consider the following tips;

Provide sufficient details in your application form of how and to what extent you meet the criteria including dates where applicable.

Examples should be concise and relevant; these may also be explored at interview.

Be clear on your personal involvement in experience example by using “I” statements, it is your unique role the panel is interested in.

Do not use acronyms or complex technical detail etc.
Reasonable Adjustment Requests
Any special arrangements which are necessary to enable people with disabilities to compete ‘on a level playing field’ are known as ‘reasonable adjustments'.
