ICT Apprenticeship Recruitment

Considering a career in IT?

The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector is recognised as vitally important in supporting and ensuring the growth of the Northern Ireland economy. The ICT sector includes companies involved in software development and engineering, systems design and development, web design, technical support and telecommunications.

An exciting ICT Apprenticeship programme has been developed to provide successful candidates with the skills and experience required to take up opportunities in the ICT sector. The Belfast ICT Apprenticeship Scheme is a joint initiative between government and local ICT companies to support the growth and expansion of the sector by recruiting and employing apprentices in various software development and IT infrastructure roles.

The Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS) is one of the participating organisations and will employ a number of ICT Apprentices in various government departments.  Each ICT Apprentice will receive a wage, learn on the job and be released from the workplace one day a week to undertake level 3 training in either software development or infrastructure at Belfast Metropolitan College.  The current salary £13881.60, rising to £21,891 on completion (normally 2 years and subject to satisfactory performance and attendance etc).

Experience is not required but applicants must possess

  • a minimum of 5 GCSEs of grade C or above, including English and Mathematics, and
  • a pass at A level in any subject area OR an equivalent qualification in any discipline.

Applications are now open and must be completed by 5:00pm on Friday 8 September 2017.

The selection process will involve an online aptitude test, followed by a verification test if successful which will take place at the college during the week commencing 18th September.

Following the test results successful candidates will then be eligible to apply to the NICS.   NICS interviews are scheduled to take place from Monday 22 October 2017.

The apprenticeship programme will commence in November.
