Donn Montague

What I do:

Department for Communities- EO2

I currently work as an EO2 in Human Resources Division (HRD) in DFC.  I am line manager of a small team of staff who are responsible for booking Business Travel for staff in the Department and processing financial payments on behalf of HRD.

I also assist the HRD Cost Centre Manager by monitoring the Branch expenditure and staff in post figures. I am responsible for ensuring accurate records are maintained for future scrutiny and for comparison on a monthly basis.  I am also responsible for ensuring e-mails are issued correctly and in a timely manner from the HR Distribution e-mail account.

I began work in the NICS as an Administrative Assistant (AA) on 18 May 1998. I had applied for a joint AA/AO external competition. My first post was in Medical Support Services (MSS) within the Social Security Agency (SSA). 6 months later I was successful in getting my Administrative Officer (AO) post and remained in MSS. In 2001 I was successful in an EOII Internal Promotion competition. Again I remained in MSS for a further 10 years. Following the outsourcing of MSS in 2011 I was redeployed to HRD where I have been working to date.

Benefits I have got from working in the NICS include –

  • Flexible working hours.
  • I have completed numerous training courses to improve my career development in areas such as IT, Business Management and Finance.
  • I had the opportunity to be seconded to the Princes Trust.
  • I have completed numerous Employee Supported Volunteering Challenges which DFC organises in partnership with Business in the Community.
  • I am a member of the Northern Ireland Civil Service Sports Association which has many benefits including its Membership Plus offers.
  • I am also a member of Beneden Health Care which gives me private health care for me and my family.
  • I have recently become a WELL Champion for DFC to help promote Health and Well Being for staff.
