Civil Service launches Student Placement Competition

02/10/2025

The Northern Ireland Civil Service will launch recruitment for its 2026-27 Student Placement Scheme shortly, offering 125 placements across government departments.

The scheme, now recruiting for its sixth year,  offers valuable experience for aspiring Civil Servants, providing an excellent opportunity for students to put into practice their classroom learning, develop personally and professionally and undertake meaningful work which directly impacts the lives of our citizens.

These are paid placements with an annual salary of £25,796 per annum, 25 days annual leave plus 12 public and privilege holidays and support from the NICS Student Network.

Opportunities are available for students across a range of degree areas and this year the NICS will run a dedicated Construction & Infrastructure Placement Scheme, focusing on disciplines such as engineering, architecture and surveying, in addition to the general Student Placement Scheme.

The competition is open to students currently studying towards an undergraduate degree, who will have successfully completed their second-year examinations by the end of the 2025/26 academic year and who have the opportunity to undertake a placement for the 2026/27 academic year.

Both the general Student Placement Scheme and the Construction & Infrastructure Placement Scheme are open for applications from Monday 6th October until noon on Friday 24th October with placements expected to start late July/early September 2026 for a period of up to 51 weeks.
